We stopped by Jerusalem Café again the other day because Khyber Pass across the street was closed. If you’re craving some Middle Eastern food and you find yourself on the westside I highly recommend Jerusalem Cafe on Lake Street in downtown Oak Park. The food is good and while not authentically Dearborn-style it’s still quite cheap. This last time we got a Chicken Shawarma Sandwich ($4.99) and a Falafel Deluxe Sandwich ($4.59). They add some extra creamy flavors to the chicken and a falafel is a big greasy but the taste is great. The sandwiches are served in pita half shells rather than being wrapped but the quantity is still good for the price. And if you desire more then come Monday through Friday for a buffet for only $6.99. I forgot to mention that with the sandwiches you also get a small plate to load up on the salad bar where you’ll find raw vegetables with Middle Eastern dressing, olives, pickles, and fried pita chips. A good place to fill up on even more veggies (the sandwiches have lettuce inside). They also have overpriced fruit and vegetable juices and smoothie-type drinks here.
