This hit close to home. Chris Himel was shot and killed while riding his bike with two friends around Western south of Armitage, near Humboldt Park and Bucktown. This was last Friday morning. No reason is given.
Chris Himel, suffered a gunshot wound at the 1500 block of North Maplewood Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy Friday determined Himel, of an unknown home address, died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Himel was with two friends, also in their 20s and riding bicycles, coming home from eating in the area of Western and North avenues when the shooting occurred, according to an Albany Park District police lieutenant.
“There was nothing unusual about what they were doing,’’ he said. “They’re in their 20s, they might have been pulling an all-nighter.†About 3:22 a.m., a neighbor called police to reports shots fired and police found the man’s body in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest area, the lieutenant said.
The two friends and another witness saw a man who was with the shooter and were helping police identify the offender, described as black male in his 30s, 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-3 and 160-170 pounds, the lieutenant said. The shooter was not on a bicycle.
